The relationship between music practice and the development of performance skills in students in professional music training programs
Main Article Content
Abstract
Musical practice is an essential element in the professional training of performers, as it has a direct relationship with the development of technical, cognitive, expressive, and self-regulation skills. This article aims to analyze the relationship between musical practice and the development of interpretive skills in professional music students through a literature review. A search, selection, analysis, and synthesis of scientific publications corresponding to the period from 2021 to 2026 were conducted, prioritizing and predominantly selecting Latin American research and international studies addressing musical practice, self-regulation, instrumental training, and musical interpretation.
The results show that instrument practice through a structured practice approach with specific goals results in the development of both technical skills and interpretive abilities through the inclusion of practice objectives, planning, practice monitoring, feedback, and reflection; that musical understanding, repertoire analysis, and autonomy also contribute to interpretations with greater meaning; and that structured, reflective, and self-regulated musical practice is a relevant factor in the development of interpretive skills during professional music training.
